This past week was the first week I felt my pregnancy slow me down and my body reacting more… well pregnant! Mainly, my ankles got huge this week. They started swelling if I was on them too much so I made a point to put them up more often. I have a hard time slowing down, but the feeling of puffy ankles isn’t my style! At my desk I put a small file box in front of my chair so when I sit at my desk I can prop them up too. It’s helping for the most part, but I think these next few months are going to be spent a bit slower than the first 8!
I finally broke down and got my hair cut and highlighted. In Chicago I started going to the Aveda school to save some money on the usual $200 haircuts. I found one in Indy and booked an appointment this week. When you go to the Aveda school you have to expect to wait. Whoever is cutting your hair is learning, so they have to discuss what they are going to do, get it signed off by an instructor and then they generally take longer to finish. I usually expect a hair and highlight to take around 3 hours, but I usually don’t mind because a 3 hour head massage is my time to relax. I bring a good book and zone out.
This haircut was a nightmare, maybe because I was pregnant? Maybe because I hadn’t eaten since 7:30 AM – but I went into the appointment at 9:45 AM and didn’t leave until 2:45 PM, yes do the math it was a 5 hour haircut!! My blood sugar was low, my butt was sore from sitting, I was starving and my pregnant hormones were raging! I don’t drink soda, but I had to ask to be excused to go to the vending machine to purchase a Sprite or else I was going to pass out in addition to having to pee 3 times during the appointment. The gal was super nice… just really slow! Make note next time, when you’re preggo – spend the extra money to not have to sit there for 5 hours!
Our friend, Aaron was in town and we all went out for his birthday dinner downtown Indy on Mass Ave. We stayed up way past this girls bedtime on a Wednesday night, but had such a great time catching up with everyone!
I’ve been lucky to not have any consistent symptoms stay around for very long during this pregnancy (hopefully these elephant ankles don’t last long), but I have had random lower back pain that just lasts for a day. This week once again I had one day of really bad back pain. It doesn’t seem to be set off by anything, maybe one day during first trimester, one day during second, and one day this week. I feel for mamas who have continual low back pain – its miserable!
This week was a week of naps again, first tri style. I was super tired during the day and by 2 – 3 pm I couldn’t physically concentrate or keep my eyes open. Most of this probably comes from lack of sleep at night, but whatever the reason the mid day naps are needed! I love that when you are pregnant naps as adults are seen as totally OK, but napping as an adult when you aren’t pregnant is seen as lazy and unproductive. I’m a big supporter of the afternoon siesta!
Our weekend was spent in the most exciting way… doing taxes 🙂 We waited until the last minute and had to get them out before the deadline. This year was especially interesting since J and I are both working for ourselves, my company is out of Delaware, our address is in MA and I live in Indy and J just became a partner with his company. When you add in our different blogs, misc revenue we brought in last year and Fitcee – it is starting to get pretty confusing. Needless to say we will be paying someone else to do our taxes next year!
In between our tax time this weekend, we finally finished our 3 month project of painting the dresser. J had finished sanding it so all we had to do was prime it and put 3 layers of paint on it. We accidentally used white paint instead of primer (oops) but all ended up looking awesome when we were done. Now we just have to get it in the nursery and see how we can make it fit in our cozy guestroom/nursery/office.
Size of Baby E: Somewhere around 16 inches and 4 lbs
Best moment of the week: We had a date night with friends at Crackers in Downtown Broadripple to see Tommy Johnagin. Super funny comedian that I started liking after seeing him on Last Comic Standing. We’ve since seen him in Chicago and now in Indy! I felt bad, my belly was shaking non stop for 2 hours since I couldn’t stop laughing!
Also, we finished up baby class this week at the hospital. I definitely think it was a good class, loved our teacher and feel better prepared because of it – but it was 2.5 hours every Monday for 7 weeks. It ended at 9 pm which is past my bedtime 🙂 I am glad that it’s over, but I’ll miss the weekly rice krispie treats at the hospital!
Obsessions/Cravings? This week it was Cinnamon Toast Cereal… its like crack – you can’t just eat one bowlful..
What I’m most looking forward to this week: My best friend Amanda having her baby any day now! We are in the final days and I am so excited to meet her little man!
What I miss the most: Bending down to tie my shoes without feeling like I am squishing my baby. The simple things are seemingly the hardest right now and I assume this will only get worse!
Workouts: Ran much less this week, walked more, but I feel good. I’m still moving every day and eating healthy. The sun is shining more so we are able to take our workouts outside which makes me so happy and excited to get baby out in the stroller this summer!
Sleep: I never sleep at night… but I try to make up for it by taking naps during the day!
Movement: This baby is busy in there. They are spring cleaning or something, because they don’t slow down!
Symptoms: Starting to get swollen 🙁 I’m doing a much better job of keeping my feet up and resting, since my feet and hands start to swell up when I push it too hard during the day.
I’m still gaining weight, and I know baby pretty much doubles in weight in the next 7 weeks so that will be interesting!
