This was the first week in a long time that we had nothing big planned. Of course we had fun birthday plans but nothing that we had to be at, or requirements outside of birthday celebrations. Confession: between birthday stuff this weekend we did A LOT of laying on the couch and watched A LOT of Parks & Rec and Modern Family. We both needed the relaxation.
We decided that as the holidays get close and people are asking us what we want/need we would start a baby registry at the nearby buy buy baby of just a few things. Bad idea. We walked in, talked to the delightful lady who was staffing the registry who handed us a book outlining 30+pages of what we needed for new baby E, and then set us free in the store with a scanner.
The first area was full of clothes and since we aren’t planning on finding out the gender, the pink and blue clothes were all left unscanned. The next area we found was the bottle nipple aisle. An entire wall of different colors, brands and sizes stared at us…we silently slid out of that aisle to say the least. The big items such as car seats, strollers and cribs we didn’t dare scan without better research on ratings and safety reviews. That left us in the baby bouncer aisle. I was mesmerized by this aisle, I would say easily 100 different bouncers and rockers made promises of bouncing our baby to sleep seamlessly. I couldn’t believe all of the different makes and models that were so similar each with their own unique functions… but which one did we scan? None of them!
Within 15 minutes we were returning the scanner to the original gal who had checked us in, needless to say she had a confused look on her face. We were either the fastest shoppers she had ever met or… yup, you guessed it! We were completely overwhelmed and decided that we didn’t need 90% of the stuff in the store.
We are diverting to plan B. We are returning with new parents who have just had a baby and hopefully have figured out what you actually need and what you can leave off your registry. On the drive home we talked about how easy registering for our wedding was, within 2 hours we had filled our lists with 100’s of items! Baby registering is a whole new ball game 🙂
Size of Baby E: Prune
Best moment of the week: Celebrating J’s birthday all weekend with friends and family! It has been 5 – 6 years since we have had a family dinner at home for J’s birthday and we are so grateful for the delicious food that was cooked and the great company around the table this past weekend!
Epiphany of the week: Exercise + Pregnancy is a really good thing. We got in a routine finally this week. Run, Weights, Walk, Run, Weights, Walk, Day off. so working out 6 days a week, 1 day off and keeping the intensity low with walking a few times and slowing down our running pace. I have felt so much better now that we have been going to the monon on a schedule in the AM.
Obsessions/Cravings? Mostly Protein this week. I’ve been craving meat this week and I’ve been avoiding veggies (which is very unlike me!). In order to get my daily dose of spinach I’ve been blending it into a smoothie because it’s the only way I can stomach greens right now!
What I’m most looking forward to this week: Our 12 week appointment in 2 weeks. I want to hear Baby E’s heartbeat again and be reassured that all is good!
What I miss the most: My ab muscles. I’m not showing yet, but I can tell my stomach muscles and shape are starting to change. I am having a lot more fat days and just overall can feel my body making those little changes that only I can tell.
Symptoms: My headaches came back a bit this week and my digestive system is moving as slow as a slug – let’s hope that perks up in a few weeks!
