“To bear trials with a calm mind robs misfortune of its strength and burden.”
~ Seneca
2020 has handed us a lot of decisions over the last 9 months and none of them have been easy. Every aspect of our “normal” has been shaken up and we are left to all deal with it in our own way.
I’ve watched a lot of people choose the route or anger and opposition. Every challenge they see as being done against them, taking their freedoms away. They spend their time complaining about how unfair life is and throw insults at people who disagree with their mindset. People are turning on the news more and it’s only dividing our communities further.
I’ve been working on recognizing the situations that I have control of, and the ones that I don’t. I’m practicing a lot of gratitude and finding the opportunities to make the best of the situation at hand.
I’m finding the choice I have in the chaos and I’m choosing to keep my world calm. I’m sheltering my happiness from all of these outside events, because the negativity and turmoil of the world right now doesn’t have space in my happiness.
We have control over our minds, and our minds are powerful tools that determine how we react to the people and challenges around us. What you read, what you watch, what you learn, your attitude, the people you choose to hang out with… these are all in your control.
When you feel something or someone raise your blood pressure or your anxiety start kicking in, slow down and recognize why. Why is your body reacting and how can your mind make a choice to stay in control? Ask yourself, “is this something you are able to control?” If it’s not, let it go.
