Our right to vote.

In recent history, women didn’t have the right to vote.

I type those words and it still makes me uneasy. It blows my mind that some women take it for granted. I’m embarrassed and shocked that it took me until I was in my 30s to comprehend the weight of those words.

I might not agree with who you’re voting for, but gosh darn-it, vote.

Vote because it is your right, because you can. Vote because you can now sign a mortgage without a male co-signer. Vote because you can now attend college alongside men. Vote because you can work alongside men. Vote for people who will further women’s rights to stand among men and hold the same positions of power as men. Vote for men and women who believe women have that right.

Feminism is thrown around as a negative term. The most basic definition of feminism is the advocacy of women’s rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes. I don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t be a feminist and believe men and women are different but equal.

Vote for equality of the sexes. Vote for a women’s right.

Just freaking vote.
