I’m 31 weeks preggo and have yet to think about any to do’s for this baby. I remember with my first at this point the nursery was set up, I had bought furniture, clothes, and spent way too many weekends at Buy Buy Baby wondering what type of paci, bottle nipple and coming home outfit would be the MOST perfect. Looking back now and laughing of course at how much of my time was spent thinking and anticipating baby #1.
Now, with 9-ish weeks left to go I figure I should as least start thinking about some of the bigger to-do’s I need to take care of before baby #2’s arrival. Here is what I have so far – any second time moms want to make any suggestions on what I need to add?
Second Baby To Do List
Wash things that have been in storage for a year – We didn’t know the gender for Lottie either, so a lot of our 0 – 3 month stuff is gender neutral, now I just need to find them and wash them!
Make sure things work still and aren’t expired – (baby swing, car seat etc.) – and make sure we have batteries to run them all.
Babysitting plan for Lottie when I go into Labor – who will have her for the two days and what will we do if we go into labor at 3 am again.
Pack Lottie an overnight bag while I’m at the hospital – Although our family can get into our house and help themself to whatever they need when it comes to Lottie, it will make it easier if I pull out some clothes and necessities early!
Pre register at the hospital – I’m taking care of this next week … hopefully if I remember my papers 🙂
Check with insurance – We have new insurance since last year, so I want to check if there is there anything I need to do to add this baby to our insurance or specifics for labor. We had a heck of a time with our first insurance company so I don’t want to leave anything up in the air.
Put car seat in the car – This will get done before baby comes (Josh, if you’re reading this, this is on your list!)
Pick up a shower curtain for my side of the bed – I’ve heard stories about water breaking overnight and beds being ruined, so last time around 37 weeks I bought a dollar store shower curtain and put it under my sheets to help protect my bed incase anything broke at night.
Get a new breast pump – Again I need to first check with insurance because we had a headache getting our “free” breastpump with Lottie. Our insurance refused to pay for it because of some small loophole and pre-approval nonsense. This time around I want to do the research before I go get it.
Make freezer meals – I always think this sounds like a great idea so I’m going to put it on my list, but it didn’t happen last time.
Charge camera battery – My camera battery is always dead so I at least need to pick up a back up battery or something to ensure I have a camera ready to use in the hospital. Although now with our phone cameras this isn’t as important if it doesn’t get done.
Pack my hospital bag – This time around I promise I will bring HALF of what I packed last night. They probably thought I was moving in for weeks based on the bags I brought in. I didn’t know :). Stay tuned for a future post of what’s in my hospital bag this time around.
Pick up milk freezer bags – I haven’t bought anything yet, but milk freezer bags I want to make sure I have on hand because when I had an overabundance of milk last time and these bags filled up quickly.
Decide on a newborn photographer – Again this is something that was done months ago with Lottie. I am way late in the game on scheduling this, but I just need to decide what our plan is for photos this time around!
Register for gifts – I use Amazon to compile my gift list since you can pull in items from any website there. We aren’t doing a sprinkle or shower for this babe but I know some friends and family have asked if we have a registry list so I figure I can throw some things on it!
Big Sister Gift – Everyone suggests having a gift for the big sister from the baby. I’m thinking a small doll or coloring book, but I do want to do something special to celebrate with Lottie on the day of.
Decide how we want to surprise our family – Last time Josh wore a pink polo into the waiting room to announce the “It’s a Girl” surprise. We will do something fun (any ideas?), and hopefully Lottie can be involved with the gender reveal this time!
Write out birth plan – Again, I am going in with a similar birth plan as the first time… Out. I want to get the baby out in the safest and best way for me and baby. I will probably try to go as natural as possible again – but like I mentioned I’m not opposed to some pain relief if my body asks for it.
What am I missing? Add to my list the things you did to make your life easier post baby number 2!

I’m pregnant with my second and this list is so helpful! I barely made a to-do list, but I have been wanting to gather up all the rattles and toys that my daughter outgrew (also names Lottie!) and disinfect then for the new baby.
