We are surrounded by modern day answers that make our mom life so much easier than it use to be. I still don’t know what moms did before Amazon Prime and Netflix, electric pumps and video monitors. Here are a few of my tactics to surviving motherhood, leave a comment with one of your own!
Amazon Prime
If you ask me where I got 99.9% of the things in my house, they were ordered off Amazon Prime and delivered to my door. Literally if I can find it on Amazon I’ll order it there, or if I can’t I’ll find something similar and order it from Amazon. It is so much easier to get free delivery right to your door.
And can we talk about Amazon Now and Amazon Pantry?!? These online ordering and delivering services are made for moms and are probably my number one tip for survival.
Kroger click list
Imagine a world where you don’t have to get out of your car to grocery shop. I’ve always been a Trader Joe’s shopper, and I still do love it there but with two kids it is easier for me to put in my order online and pick it up the next morning at the Kroger 1 mile from my house. I haven’t tried pea pod or other delivery services, I am sure they are equally as amazing for moms.
It took me awhile to admit defeat in the grocery shopping world. I actually enjoy going to the grocery store, but getting two kids, 2 and under, out of the car, through the grocery store and back in the car is a full-blown workout some days. Kroger has a $5 fee for their click list pick up, but I probably impulse purchase way more than $5 if I actually go in the store. Or Lottie talks me into an extra 5 bags of marshmallows that we don’t need.
Also, I manage to lose my mind when I go into the grocery store. It’s as if I black out and end up in the parking lot an hour later with no idea what I put in my cart, hoping I can make something for dinner out of the $100 I just spent. If I am able to sit at my computer the night before and order my groceries, without kids vying for my attention, I end up with food we actually need instead of random stuff I throw in as I walk through the aisles.
This is not an ad for Kroger… I just use it so I recommend it. Enough said, you need to try this!
Bad Reality TV
My vice is Real Housewives and Bachelor. Maybe you are a Kardashian type of mom. Whatever your go to show is, no matter how bad the reality show is, it somehow lets us zone out for 30 minutes and relax. My husband swears these shows are a bunch of yelling and crying, but they are my way of sitting and not thinking about anything for a few minutes. After a day of mom’ing sometimes I need to escape and reality TV can be an easy answer some days.
Other Moms
I’ve said it before, you need other moms in your life. You need a support system, a place to vent and a place to go to celebrate the milestones. I go into more detail on my post on the 10 Types of Moms You Need in Your Life, but this is a big one not to skip over!

Early Bedtimes
Ever since Lottie was a baby she has had a 7 pm bedtime. Ofcourse we don’t make it to bed this early every night, especially in the summer, but it’s always a goal. If she naps late, we still put her in there at 7pm and she plays in her room for a few hours before climbing in bed and passing out with 3 puzzles and 15 books around her.
The 7 pm bedtime is mostly for Josh and I. This is our time to connect as a couple and helps our marriage sanity. You have to make time for each other, and after you’ve been parenting all day you need a break before you go to bed yourself. I realize some parents aren’t even home from work by this time, but whatever your bedtime is, I encourage you to make it early enough that you save time for your husband/wife at the end of the day to unwind together.
Dance Parties
My kid can dance her face off for hours. If it’s a rainy day and we are stuck inside, dance parties can make hours fly by. You will be shocked as you start making dance parties part of your routine how much energy is burned and how much kids love breaking out their cool dance moves with their moms and dads. Don’t sit by and watch them, get your own dancing shoes on and burn some energy! We have so many fun memories dancing together all over the house!
Quiet Time
Naps are ideal. Kids need sleep and I wish my kids were sleepers, but they aren’t. Lottie gave up naps around 2, but that doesn’t mean that quiet time still isn’t important. We spend 1.5 – 2 hours every day in quiet time. This is vital for me to get a break in the middle of the day and it helps her have some time by herself, playing in her room without a lot of distractions around. It’s been great to teach her how to play by herself.
Cleaning Crew
When we moved into our new house Josh and I committed to having a cleaning team come once a month and deep clean the house. Just because I stay at home with the kids, doesn’t mean its my job to clean the house. I help out a lot, and do majority of the cleaning, laundry cooking etc because I am home, but having a crew come once a month helps me so much. We have them do the deep cleaning stuff that honestly probably wouldn’t get done if they weren’t coming. Things like dust the blinds, scrub down the bathrooms, mop the floors, dusting in general, vacuuming upstairs, etc. You get the picture.
It would take Josh and I an entire Saturday (at least) to get through cleaning while trying to entertain the kids. Instead we’ve chosen to bring in a team, spend the money and save our Saturdays for family time. We will both gladly forfeit one dinner out a month in our budget for the house to be deep cleaned by professionals.
Chatbooks
I love scrapbooking, but don’t have the time as a mom. I want to record all of the milestones and activities that we do together, but at the end of the day I don’t have the energy. So I use Chatbooks as my scrapbook. I post images on Instagram with the main purpose of them being automatically added to my Chatbooks app.
After 60 images, Chatbooks automatically makes me a book, charges me $8, and ships it to me. I can go through these books and see the kids progressions, along with my comments about what we are doing. They are small so they don’t take up a lot of room and again they are easy. I need easy in this season of my life!
