24 weeks down, 16 to go!
I can’t believe I’m 24 weeks. It’s gone so quickly… but I know I still have a ways to go. This last week has been the first week where I actually am starting to feel pregnant. Those simple things that you take for granted such as bending, climbing stairs and getting up and down off the floor when you are playing with your toddler are all starting to leave me slightly out of breath.
A few of my friends have had newborn babies that I’ve had the pleasure of snuggling and my heart leaps at the thought of having another little one around the house. I’m not worried about Lottie’s transition with the second, everything about her screams big sister. She is already so helpful around the house and talks non stop about the baby that will be joining us. I’m sure there will be moments where she needs me more than others but in terms of her feeling left out and acting out because of it – I don’t fear that transition.
Before my first pregnancy Josh and I went on a 2 week babymoon, cruised through the Bahamas and stayed at a beautiful resort in Nassau. This time around our busy schedules don’t leave us with a week between now and 34 weeks and I don’t know how eager I will be to run off at 34 weeks on a romantic getaway. After looking at the calendar over the next three months we found one weekend where we can squeeze in a getaway so we are planning on running to Nashville to do some honkey tonkin’!
Lottie and I have been having fun together with some quality mom and dot time. Every stage is fun to go through and knowing that each passes so quickly makes me want to soak up every moment together. Even the tantrums and the whining will pass and while it is of course frustrating – I have to remind myself that my little person is just trying to get her thoughts and opinions heard and doesn’t have the words to tell me yet. We are going to be going through some big transitions before this second baby comes such as sleeping in a big girl bed and potty training (silent scream of terror!). I know Lottie is ready for both of these, I just need to pick a few weekends spread out over the next few months and work with her on them.
Boy or Girl?
I haven’t had any boy/girl dreams and I don’t have that feeling that some moms talk about insisting that they knew their baby’s gender from day one. I flip back and forth depending on the day. This week I’m leaning towards boy… I think? But I’m almost ALWAYS wrong when guessing baby genders, so if I’m leaning boy it’s probably a girl.
My reasons?
This second pregnancy I feel much less hormonal. During my first pregnancy I cried at the drop of a hat. This time around I either don’t have time to be emotional or simply don’t have the raging girl hormones in me this time around. That’s all I got for guesses.
… but after my 24 week appointment today I think I changed my vote to GIRL…. it’s never-ending
This pregnancy has also been ridiculously similar to Lottie’s down to the two having the exact same weights and heartbeats. So because of the similarity of the pregnancy (minus the less hormonal feels) maybe it’s a girl?
Who knows we will find out in May!
Size of Baby E: Cantaloupe size
Obsessions/Cravings? Other than the delicious pickle and mustard sandwich? Frosted shredded wheat cereal has been my nightly treat.
What I’m most looking forward to this week: Josh just found out he has a week-long meeting in Chicago and I just decided I’m going with him. Even though he will be busy all day and night with meetings and dinners I’m excited to go back to Chicago and explore with Lottie! I miss that city and take every chance I get to go play downtown!
What I miss the most: Summer! overall we’ve had a mild winter this year but these last few days have been highs of 0 and wind chills of -8. Lottie and I have been hibernating in this cold and her and I are both getting cabin fever!
Workouts: With our gym finally setup in the basement I’ve been doing mostly weight circuits with a bit of cardio mixed in. Nothing crazy but every workout feels great!
Sleep: I’m actually not sleeping horribly. My first pregnancy I was up 2 to 3 times a night with pregnant insomnia. Maybe it’s just pure exhaustion after a long day, but I’m sleeping through the night most nights. I still wake up feeling like I’ve been hit by a truck, but at least I know I got 7 hours of sleep… even though I don’t always feel refreshed.
Movement: Lots of kicks that are getting stronger every week. I try to grab Lottie’s hand when the baby starts kicking and she has felt a few of them! Lottie moved for 2 hours every night in my belly, this next one moves all day but hasn’t kept me up at night yet (Or I’m too tired to feel it and sleep through it)
Symptoms: My headaches have been staying away over the last month thankfully. Pregnant acne is acting up a little bit which is never fun nor glamorous. I’m starting to feel more pregnant. Getting up and down is more difficult and I am slightly short of breath after going up and down the stairs, but overall I think I’m having fewer symptoms with this second pregnancy than the first. Maybe I know what to expect so I’m just brushing off the symptoms has typical pregnancy, but it’s definitely gone by quicker and been easier this second time around.
See you in a month – until then I’ll be relaxing and enjoying the remainder of my second trimester!
