1. Who are you?
I’m Amanda, busy mom of two young boys (8 & 5yos). I’ve been married to my college sweetheart for 16 yrs. I’m a licensed counselor & life coach with a private practice on the north side of Indy. I help Worry Warts find peace of mind and distant couples reconnect. In my personal life, I really love to read, try new recipes, drink coffee, and do crossword puzzles. I also really enjoy trying new restaurants and doing other fun things around the city.
2. When is your favorite time of day?
I love waking up on the weekends to drink coffee and do a crossword or read.
3. When is your most chaotic time of day?
I do enjoy the weekday mornings even though they are the most chaotic time of day. Now that I’m self-employed, I don’t have to rush out the door as much. Still, that brief period of time on the weekday mornings from when my oldest gets up to when the bus comes can be pretty hectic, especially when the bus shows up early!
4. What is your mom chaos confession?
I am all about organization. I love systems, planners, lists, and anything that helps with efficiency and time management, but if I’m totally honest with myself I struggle with follow through. There are some tasks I can do no problem, but other things I can EASILY talk myself out of them no matter how perfect my system is!
5. What is your best tip for managing the chaos?
My best tip is to ‘know thy self’ or ‘don’t strive to be something you’re not.’ For example, if you’re a Night Owl, you are only setting yourself up for failure if you set a goal to get up an hour early to exercise or to be more productive. Accept yourself and set goals with that personal insight in mind.
6. What does a typical day in your chaos look like (see above example)?
Typical day starts with the chaos of getting my 2nd grader to the bus on time! Afterward, I’m usually still in my pajamas doing some kind of work on my practice, like writing my progress notes or working on my website. I’m a DIYer with my business, so there’s always something to work on or scouring the internet to learn how first. I’m trying to accomplish all that while entertaining my 5 yo. I usually can bribe him to do some educational stuff before he gets time on an electronic device. I don’t see clients until later in the afternoon/evenings. Some days I have meetings in the mornings so we end up running all over town, other days are pretty laid back and I’m in my pajamas even longer.
I do have things I try to do each day to control the chaos, like cleaning Mondays, blogging Tuesdays, financial/admin stuff for my private practice on Fridays. I’ve been able to maintain that pretty well, but some weeks just don’t work out that way.
